ITIL: Service Support & Service Delivery - the whole thing June 1, 2006

ITIL Overview

I’ve been posting sections of my notes as I’ve worked my way through various ITIL materials over the last few months, and those can be found here. I got caught up with various bits and pieces, as the distinct lack of posting around here may have indicated, but I did keep that work up. Rather than posting a series of hard to read JPG’s, and a series of posts, I thought I’d just go ahead and post the whole thing here, and let you have at it if you’re interested. The overview image on the right links directly to the MindManager MindMap - there’s too much detail in the map itself to make an image of it here viable. If you don’t have MindManager itself, there’s a viewer available for download.

If you want to talk more “ITIL Stuff”, feel free to contact me, either directly or in the comments here. The map I’m making available here isn’t the “final version” that I use myself - that has substantially more low-level information in the notes field of the various map entries, as well as commentary and such from my own experiences, as well as links out to appropriate parts of other methodologies. For the time being, partly for commercial advantage reasons, and partly to make sure that I don’t violate anyone else’s copyright, I won’t be making that version of the map directly available, but if I end up working with you on an ITIL matter, well, we’ll see.

As always, comments and questions on ITIL are welcomed, and if you take a copy of the map, and are so inclined, let me know what you think and how it works for you.

Thanks for the mindmap. I would recommend it to candidates to the ITIL foundation certificate, or as an introduction to ITIL (for manager for example)

Thanks - and yes, that’s exactly the level that the public version of this map is positioned at.

Hi Gary

as the philosophical type you may appreciate the contrarian view of ITIL at www.itilskeptic.org. Not sure how to work any of it into the mindmap though, unless as a “business case” or ‘benefits’ or “considerations” branch??

Hm. Interesting site. I’m working my way through it now - thanks for the link.

Hi there, Just wanted to say ‘hi’. I also use Mind Manager and when I took my Foundation Certificate I put together a map for myself to help the study process. Not that different to this really except I’ve got a lot of personal comments etc. on mine which I’m guessing you have on your fuller version. Anyway, my point is - great to see another ITIL Mind Mapper out there!

Hi,

You have it spot on - my “fuller” version has notes, comments, references to internal projects or other documents that I have, and so forth. There are company confidentiality, as well as copyright, implications to that, so the full version won’t be released. The one here - hopefully it’s a good starting point, or quick reference guide, to folks.

Gary, I just did Day1 of the ITIL Foundations course today, and I was going to try and do a MindMap to prepare for the exam tomorrow (but am short of time, since I have a different exam at the end of the week too!!) and so Googled for ITIL Mindmaps and found your FANTASTIC SITE!!

Thank you VERY much - it is not only helpful for learning ITIL, but also delightful to see such beautifully crafted mindmaps!!
Regards,
James.

Appreciate that James - thank you. Glad it helped.

Gary, I use mind maps all the time. This was a wonderful time saver. Thanks!

Gary

wow - what great work.. it looks very similar in layout to Mindmaps that I drew up a couple of years ago and that we’ve had available at www.itilsurvival.com and www.theartofservice.com - but I guess there are limited ways to describe the basics.

Gary

Excellent stuff. I am embarking on an internal project to design and implement processes to support our Managed Services operations. These are based on the ITIL Foundation course I did in August.

I like the way your mind-map presents the subject matter aesthetically. I’ve been struggling with this for months!

Thanks and good luck

Gary, Thank you for the mindmap. I am working on a way to integrate ITIL into my Enterprise Archiecture work/models. I still need some time to get is to where I can share.

Regards,
Leo
